Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is from the end of December to the fifth of January of next year. From the last day of December on, we say "恭喜" to each other. We also light firecrackers to frighten away the terrible beast called "年" , but now it is just a way to celebrate. This festival is also the time that families get reunion and eat dinner together. There are fish, spinach, rice cake, dumpling, and so on. And adults will give lucky money to children to wish them a good luck. I always go back to Kaohsiung to celebrate New Year. My Family get together and eat a lot of traditional foods, for example, dumplings, rice cake, oranges, fish, apples, and Pork Knuckle Noodle Threads. We play mahjong and poker cards. I have many cousins, so I can play many things with them a long time. I can tell you what the foods mean! Apple means peace. Rice cake means getting better. Orange means good luck. I usually play computer at Chinese News Year , But this year I gambled a lot , I am good at gambling , not because I practice more , but because I have good luck.

I won a lot of money this year. I used that money to buy shoes and Gash .Gash is for a kind of computer game. It can buy clothes for your characters, and make your characters handsome.

Chinese New Year is a very lively holiday. We can see family members that we haven’t seen a long time. Moreover, we can go to play. But, sometimes I don’t like to go to play because I haven’t been home for a long time. I want to be at home and play computer.　　by Jessie

Chinese New Year is the most important festival in Taiwan in a year. Chinese New Year has many days and many interesting customs. On the New Year Eve people would prepare a lot of food to worship gods and ancestors to thank them for blessing us a year and hope them can continue to bless us for the next year. On New Year's Eve people can't sleep because an old tale says, at the eve, the big monster would kidnap children if they are sleeping. So at night, people would play some games to keep awake. On New Year Day, people visit relatives and friends. And adults would give children red envelope. That means adults would hope the children will have more luck in the new year. On the second day of Chinese New Year, every family would go to mom's hometown because at ancient time if a woman got married they can go back to their hometown only during New Year time. Chinese New Year has 15 days. During these days people can bet some money, and relax. So everyone loves Chinese New Year. 　by Tina
