Dragon Boat Festival

There is a story about the beginning of Dragon Boat Festival. In ancient China ,there was a very loyal minister named 屈原 ,who gave his emperor some advice . But the emperor was unhappy and punished him. After that, 屈原 was so sad and then he jumped into the river to kill himself . When the public knew the news, everyone was sad for him. And people hoped the fish in the river wouldn’t eat 屈原's body, so they made rice cake ,dragon boats and threw the cake into the river . Today , people still make rice cake and ride dragon boats to commemorate 屈原. And this has become a festival. There is a lot of fun on Dragon Boat Festival, many people like this festival, of course, including me. 　　~~ Tina

Chinese have three big Festivals: New Year , Moon Festival and Dragon Boat Festival . Now it is summer, and the only Festival in summer is Dragon Boat Festival . People usually eat rice cake for Dragon Boat Festival .Rice cake is good, very very good ! Rice cake has two different flavors, salty and sweet. If you come to Taiwan you have to taste it. And, on the Dragon Boat Festival, there is a special race called Dragon Boat Race. It’s very exciting. You can try it, too! 　　~~ Alex

Dragon Boat Festival is on May Fifth on Lunar calendar. On this day, people will eat rice cake and hold a Dragon Boat Race. Every one can have fun this day. Adults will use a kind of herbal liquor to keep monsters away. And People would put up eggs. It will bring good luck. Dragon Boat Festival is a great festival to have fun! ~~Kevin

Every Dragon Boat Festival, my family and I can eat together and go to watch Dragon Boat Race. I like this day because we can play cards together, go to night market together. Although I don’t like to eat rice cake and watch Dragon Boat Race. It is boring. I still like Dragon Boat Festival!　　 ~~Jessie

I like Dragon Boat Festival because I can eat a lot of rice cake. But eating too much will make me fat. People put beans in rice cake in southern Taiwan, but in northern Taiwan people put more meat in it. I like Southern rice cake better.

When I was 6, I went to a River Park to see people row the Dragon Boat. It was exciting and fun :). ~~Melody
